Beautiful options include holding the baby between both parents, kissing the baby from each side, cuddling together, taking close-ups of all three faces, and photographing the baby’s tiny hands with Mom’s and Dad’s hands. Simple poses usually create the most natural and emotional portraits.

Newborn portraits are often scheduled within the first two weeks after birth, especially if you want sleepy, curled-up poses. Sessions can also be done later. The right timing depends on your baby’s arrival, health, feeding routine, and the style of portraits you want.

Include interactions that already happen naturally at home. Dad might cradle the baby against his chest, Mom can give a familiar forehead kiss, or you can hold your baby together and simply look down at them. Tiny details such as your wedding rings, a meaningful blanket, or your baby holding your fingers can also make the portraits more personal.
